Gluten Free Cupcakes :-)
Last night I needed to whip up a quick dessert to take to a holiday party…and I wanted to make it gluten free so I could indulge. Sooooo, I searched may pantry and found a pack of Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Chocolate cake mix and decided to make some cupcakes.
Since you can never get too much chocolate I whipped up a batch of dairy free dark chocolate frosting.
The cupcakes were a...
Organic???
Wouldn’t we all would love to buy our produce at organic farmers markets? Everything would be fresh, healthy, at the peak of season and we’d be supporting our local farmers as much as possible.
But life is more complicated than that. We don’t all have access to a farmers market year round, and even if we did watching the old budget is usually an issue.
Soooooooo, if you need...
Tap water-ugh. Chromium VI anyone?
Not only does tap water taste awful, but you just can’t be sure that it is safe at all. Think that tap water is regulated so that it is usually free of stuff that will kill you? Think again!

Soooooooo, if you don’t want to buy bottled water/drink out of plastic/add to the recycling heap, please buy a faucet...

Double Ginger Biscotti with Golden Raisins
In my quest for everything ginger this holiday season I decided to experiment with ginger biscotti! I love biscotti with a cup of tea, and I’m willing to give up a little crunch to avoid the buttery richness of your usual biscotti. The crystallized ginger is a little pricey but worth the splurge for the holiday season, as they give them a gingery kick that can’t be beat! I like to...

Holy Granol-y
This is my favorite breakfast (for now). I always seem to get burnt out on breakfast foods, so every once in a while I like to re-invent the ol’ breakfast wheel. This is how I came up with my steal cut granola recipe!
Steel Cut Granola Parfait
Cinnamon Apples
1 sweet apple
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp vegan butter
1 tsp agave
Combine all of these ingredients in a...
Pop Chips!
Ahhh, if I’m going to eat chips I treat myself to these. They are actually popped (hence their name), so they are crispy with just a little safflower/sunflower oil and sea salt.

stagediveshighfives-deactivated asked: Obviously still enjoy the posts, but now I have a question, or rather a request/task for you.
Please give me a recipe or whatever for a simple chili? My roommate and I have been using a crockpot to cook up a basic chicken chili and it rules, but I need some ideas to made it more flavorful and even more healthy because I'm eating basically nothing else, in my cutting bodyfat phase......

Quinoa pasta? It's sooooo good!
Lots of people are asking for alternatives to wheat, and how to enjoy their favorite dishes while avoiding the traditional wheat based pasta. I too love pasta and have found a gluten free brand that I can really recommend- Ancient Harvest Quinoa Pasta:

What I love about this pasta is that it has a nice, clean flavor and holds its shape when cooked al dente....

Gingerbread!
I love gingerbread! It is spicy and not too sweet and gets me in the mood for the holiday season. I created an easy, healthy version that is fairly low on fat and has less sugar than your typical recipe, but is still moist and delicious. I use half white spelt flour and half whole wheat pastry flour, but you can use all whole wheat pastry flour or half whole wheat pastry flour and half whole...

Split Pea and Lentil Soup
Or should I say-Split Pea and Lentil and Black Bean Soup? I love them all, so I figured out a way to get them all in one delicious and hearty soup. I used green and red lentils, but you can use any kind that you have in your pantry.
I cook the beans the night before and then make the soup when I get home from a busy day-this cuts the total cooking the time way down. But if you have the time do...
ericapiper asked: Here is a recipe I came across on Tumblr. It sounds like a delicious and nutritious substitute for traditional pizza crust (I LOVE pizza), but I was wondering if you might have any suggestions to replace the mozzarella cheese in the crust mixture. Nothing against mozzarella, I just don't know about making the crust AND topping the pizza with it! Thanks!

In season-Persimmons!!!
Fruits and vegetables that have a brief season are sometimes sadly ignored. They just aren’t around long enough or perhaps they’re not familiar enough to be in your culinary repetoire. But come on, isn’t it fun to discover that you not only love a seasonal variety but that their fleeting appearance helps celebrate that time of year? Watermelon at its peak in the summer, corn...
Knife Sale
This is a one day deal at Williams Sonoma.
If you don’t have good knives (I didn’t for the longest time) it is a great investment. They will last and last and make your time in the kitchen so much easier. Just be very careful, if you’re not used to sharp knives you have to be really attentive while you get used to them!

porcelainstrength asked: I'm a freshman in college right now, and I'm absolutely terrified of gaining the "Freshman Fifteen". I feel like I've been making semi-decent choices (based on what my cafeteria offers), and since my entire campus is uphill both ways to get anywhere, I get a decent amount of exercise. However, the choices they offer for food here aren't very good at all - take the...
squelettiquemartin asked: I have a question. I live in a dormitory at a University. I am 6 feet tall and weigh 140 pounds approximately. I burn off about 950 calories during my morning workouts. I find myself binging in the afternoons. I think I am binging because I do not have a normal eating schedule. How can I avoid these binges and how can I find healthy meal options to make with no stove, oven or kitchen. I live off...

Looks like huge wedges of cheese or huge cheesecakes, but it is halvah! I am not a huge halvah fan but know many people who love it. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, halvah is a confection usually made by mixing tahini with honey, and adding additional flavors to create many varieties. Some are super sweet, some less sweet.
This looks like it would be a halvah dream come...
