An almost vegan carrot cake
There are plenty of recipes where flax meal and water or bananas or applesauce can save the consistency of a baked good, but unfortunately carrot cake is not one of those desserts. Because you want carrot to be the prominent flavor in a carrot cake, adding the banana and applesauce leaves you with a mouth full of carrot-y banana-y confusion. If you are a hard-core vegan I say banana it up… but...

I am half way done with Jonathan Safran Foer’s new book Eating Animals, and I have to say I may get a little teary eyed on the last page because I don’t want it to end!! His use of weaving personal stories with fact, humor and realism makes this book very special to the vegan/vegetarian world. His struggle with being a vegetarian is very honest and he spends a lot of time...

Gluten-Free Pumpkin Pancakes
It is no secret that box bought gluten-free flour mixes don’t compare to the real thing, it is also not a secret that maple syrup is one of the great gifts of mother nature. What is a secret is that with a little tweaking and finessing gluten-free pancakes can be just as tasty as their glutinous little rascally counterparts.

What the.... Part 2. Salsify
Apparently this long thin dirty little guy belongs to the dandelion family and tastes a little like an oyster when cooked. What does one even do with this? It looks like a dirty rejected parsnip prawn man! I have never in my life seen or heard of this veggie. Is that strange?

If at first you don't succeed...
I am on a mission to create a home made veggie burger that tastes better than a Dr. Praeger’s California Vegetable Burger; so far I have not succeeded. My last attempt was the best so far. The burger was made of sautéed onions, garlic, cumin, rice breadcrumbs, corn, peppers, carrots, tofu and potatoes. I think the recipe could be great with some tweaking… so stay posted for that!...

EdibLe LoS aNgElEs Part 2. Akasha Restaurant
Akasha is a restaurant and bar that utilizes sustainable ingredients for its delicious meals. The menu strives to satisfy vegetarians/vegans/omnivores alike, while not passing judgment based on your food preferences. The interior is beautiful; with its high exposed ceilings and brick/concrete accents. The drinks are great (try the pomegranate or the pumpkin pie cocktail) and the service is also...

YUMMM Time. I know what you are thinking, turkey? Natasha… I thought you didn’t eat meat? Well I do. I don’t eat it very often, but every once in a while I crave some animal protein, and I think there is nothing wrong with it every once in a while. PLEASE PLEASE make sure that if you are going to indulge in meat that it is grass fed, hormone free, organic and raised...
